Ask on YouTube ("we," "our," or "us") helps you ask questions about YouTube videos using your chosen AI service. This policy describes the information used to provide those features. The extension does not collect usage statistics or send usage analytics events.
When you ask a question, the extension processes your question and selected video information, such as the title, URL, captions and comments you choose to include, and sends that content to your chosen AI service. Questions, video information and answer links may be kept in the extension's local question history. If you configure a Gemini API key, it is stored in Chrome sync storage and sent to Google's Gemini service to authenticate the requests you initiate. The AI service's own privacy terms also apply.
Information is used to provide question submission, question history, saved questions, settings and optional AI suggestions. You can manage local question history in the extension's History page and change your Gemini API key in Settings. We do not operate a server that collects your questions or usage statistics.
Content needed to answer your questions is sent to the AI service you choose. Requests for AI suggestions using your Gemini API key are sent to Google's Gemini service. These services receive your IP address when your browser connects to them. We do not sell user data or use it for advertising, creditworthiness or lending. Our use of data adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google's handling is described in Google's Privacy Policy.
Connections to AI services use HTTPS. Question history is stored locally in your browser; settings and the optional Gemini API key use Chrome storage, including sync storage where configured. Keep your API key private and remove it in Settings if you no longer want the extension to use it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
